New Carer Representation Workshops in 2011

Description

Carers NSW is running another round of two day workshops for carers interested in joining our Carer Representation Program. Workshops will be held in Sydney on 10-11 Feb (this workshop is now full) and in regional NSW - Dubbo on 18-19 May.

The Carer Representation Program provides carers from across NSW with opportunities to participate in activities such as guest speaking, media interviews, and representation on committees and roundtables. The aim is to inform a range of professionals and general members of the community of carers’ perspectives.

Carers who are interested in the program will need to fill out an Expression of Interest form. No prior experience is needed as Carers NSW will provide you with training and support, although a passion for getting the carers’ perspective heard is a must.

For more information please contact Louise Bradley on 02 9280 4744 or email louiseb@carersnsw.asn.au

Arabic Dementia specific day care and disability group

The Guildford Community Centre has had an active day respite program since 1986 which is open to anyone over 65, and has recently received funding for a new integrated group aimed towards seniors from Arab speaking backgrounds with mild to mid level dementia, which will run alongside the main day respite group. There is also another group which meets only on Fridays called the Friends on Friday group, aimed specifically at people with disabilities and who are over 18. These programs are all open to people living in the Holroyd, Parramatta and Auburn local government areas.

The program runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm and it involves morning tea, exercises, a hot meal and activities. We also have our own wheelchair accessible buses which will provide transport to and from the centre if the client requires it. There are also outings on Fridays which the clients can choose to go on, as well as other events such as carers' luncheons and open days for clients and their carers. We are aware that carers do so much for their charges, and our programs are set up to benefit them as well by giving them a break for three or four hours a day. Contact Jeanne.

Made In Dagenham
From the director of Calendar Girls, Made In Dagenham tells the remarkable true story of a group of female factory workers in 1960's London. With humour, common sense and courage they take on their U.S. paymasters, an increasingly belligerent local community, and finally the government itself, to strike an everlasting blow for equal pay for women. The catalyst for the women's struggle is fast-talking, no nonsense Rita whose fiery temper and occasionally hilarious unpredictability proves to be a match for any of her male opponents.
