What carers received in this year’s Federal Budget

Extra respite funding over the next four years

• $26.5 million, which equates to 100,000 days of respite care, to support carers of older people living at home
• $41.2 million to provide respite to carers of frail older people, and
• $6 million for expansion of respite support for carers of young people with severe and profound disabilities.

Carer bonuses

• One-off bonus of $1000 for Carer Payment recipients
• $600 for Carer Allowance recipients.

While carer associations welcomed these announcements, they are just a small proportion of what Carers Australia asked for in their Budget submission on behalf of carers, Building choices for carers.
