Carers NSW works continually to build awareness and recognition of carers and their needs, and to improve the range of services, systems and supports available to them.

We do this through our research, policy and systemic advocacy activities. We work to identify and research emerging issues and gather information/evidence to support our position. We represent carers by participating in government advisory groups, consulting with key stakeholders and voicing carers’ issues on committees or working parties.

Carers NSW research and policy activities include:

• Policy development including submissions on issues that affect carers, and reports and papers in response to government initiatives or legislation relating to carers.
• Systemic advocacy where we represent the rights and interests of all carers in order to influence or change the systems, services and supports that affect them.
• Leadership on carer-related issues across the community.

We are working on policy priorities in the areas of:

• Disability
• Health
• Mental health
• Financial and employment issues
• Aged care

Our policy priorities recognise the diversity of carers in terms of ethnicity, cultural background, age, gender and caring situation.
