WHAT'S NEW
Carer Eligibility and Needs Assessment Trial 2006
The Commonwealth Government is currently attempting to streamline services and
procedures to create a fairer system for older people requiring care to stay
at home. The focus of reform is on programs funded through the Australian Government
Department of Health and Ageing and is being trialled with the cooperation of
service providers in State and Territory Home and Community Care (HACC) programs,
in the Aged Care Assessment Program and in the National Respite for Carers Program
(NRCP). Field testing of the changes is being conducted between July and
October 2006 with reports to be submitted in December 2006. Read

Carer Statistics
The Department of Human Services, through the Centrelink Data Services,
keeps an account of how may people receive carer benefits in each Federal electorate.
These figures (Carer Allowance, Carer Payment and Wife Pension
DSP) may be more useful in some instances that the Australian Bureau of Statistics
carer data and are current to 1 July 2005. To view the
figures go to this website.
Advance Care Planning (ACP)
ACP as a process that allows a competent individual to express their views in
relation to future health care decisions when the capacity to express those
views is lost. It can play a critical role in reducing the stress to families
that participation in health care decisions can cause. For more information
