Carer Profiles

My name is Janice Kennedy.
I have lived in Mt Druitt area for over 30 years. I was born in Bellingen and grew up in Bowraville and Nambucca Heads. I belong to the Dainggatti tribe. I am a carer for my son who suffers from Schizophrenia. I belong to the ACM where I make silk scarfs and help run the Centre.

My name is Daisy Barker.
I am originally from Echuca and my family is Yorta Yorta. I have lived in Mt Druitt for 30 years. I help out at the ACM, Penrith and am part of the Carers group. I take care of my grandchildren.

My name is Margaret Farrell.
I've lived in Quakers Hill for 23 years. My family is Bundjalung. I do volunteer work at the ACM, and go to the Aboriginal Carer Support Group. I care for my child Marie and help look after an older family member.

My name is Jenny Ebsworth.
I am from Brewarrina and am a Murawari woman. I've lived in the Mt Druitt area for over 30 years. I attend the ACM most days I can and assist in running the centre. I am currently taking care of my new granddaughter and my son who suffers from a mental illness.

My name is Alison and I am a Wiradjuri woman.
I come to the Carers group and also help at the Centre. I look after my son who has a physical disability.

My name is Christine Kennedy.
Originally I come from Walgett. I am from Gingi Mission. My language group is Kamilaroi. I've been involved with the ACM since 1996. I care for my 15-year-old son.

My name is Sharon.
I grew up in Mt Druitt, but moved to Penrith when I was about 19. I do some volunteer work at the Centre and am currently doing a small business course at Tafe. I help look after my mum who is sick and I also help look after my brother who has a mental illness. I have helped do this since I was at school.
